for the little kiddy winks ...

 

I bought these plain white bodysuits to customise for gifting. I used the screen sensations 'kiddywinks' screen and masked each design to screen print them separately with different coloured screen sensations inks. I used the 'smoothie' for the unicorn, 'niagara' for the bunny and 'seaglass' for the dinosaur. I think these cute little designs work perfectly to customise clothes for a baby.

halloween bunting!!

• basic grey for moda cotton (Halloween fabric) 3 x half a metre
• iron on interfacing (medium weight) 1.5 metres
• black bias binding (1 inch wide) 9 metres
• sew easy equilateral 60' triangle template

I cut 3 different patterned fabrics into 5 1/2" strips. I cut these into the bunting shape using the sew easy- equilateral 60' triangle template. I cut interfacing into 5" strips and used the template to cut my triangles. I ended up with 96 fabric triangles and 48 of the interfacing. I then paired up the fabric triangles with one layer of interfacing for each pair. I then ironed the interfacing to one of the triangles from each pair, before sewing the pair of fabric triangles right sides together leaving the top edge open. I then trimmed the excess fabric with pinking shears and turned them right way around. I then pressed each of the triangles to keep the edges neat and shapes flat. To assemble the bunting, I first arranged the colours into the desired pattern. I then folded the binding in half and ironed along the full length to create a crease. Each of the triangles was then placed between the binding and pinned into position, leaving an inch gap between them and 5 inch spare on either end. The final stage was to sew along the entire length of the binding to secure all of the triangles in place.

 

The bunting was then ready to hang for a party or special occasion. This one is for Halloween but a change of fabric could make it perfect for any occasion or just for interior décor !! It can also be a great project for scrap busting to use up those offcuts of different fabrics. This project did leave me with some spare fabric which could be used up in other projects or a miniature version of bunting.

fruity!!

I have been making some tea towels using indian wooden block printing.  I bought plain white cotton tea towels and used this very cool fruit design block to decorate them. I used kiwi, mustard and orange fabric paints, which you heat set to become permanent.

mushrooms !!

I made this cute zipped cosmetic bag, as a gift for a friend. she loves mushrooms so I found this cute fabric that was perfect for her...I used the lewis & irens threaded with love. fox&friends fabric for my project.

i carried a watermelon...

 

a friend requested a watermelon, after seeing my previous  keyring's. I cut a circle of green felt, a slightly smaller one in white and a slight smaller one again out of pink. I used coloured embroidery floss/ thread to add some details and secure the layers together. I folded my circle in half to find the centre and stitched a ribbon loop on the back. I cut out another circle of green felt, to the same size. I folded this in half, then trimmed either side down to make an elipse. I blanket stitched along one side attaching the front to the back, I then stuffed the watermelon. I made sure the shape was right and made any adjustments, by just trimming the felt a little. when I was happy with the shape I blanket stitched it all together, I added a bit more stuffing before I closed up the gap completely. I added on my metal keyring hoop to finish.

an apple a day...

 

to make this cute keyring i simply cut my felt out using my hand drawn template as a guide. i layered the felt pieces together, using backstitch then added satin stitched pips for detail. i cut out two leaf shapes glued these together and used a back stitch to secure them. i attached a ribbon loop and the leaf onto the back panel of the apple. i used a blanket stitch to secure the front to the back, leaving a gap for stuffing. once stuffed I stitched up the gap and add a metal keyring to finish!!
